Matthew 6:24 “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Desires can ruin and also make a man; the question here is, what are your desires? Is it to build your spirit man or to satisfy the flesh? Having uncontrollable desires for the things of the flesh will only restrain you from fulfilling your destiny in Christ Jesus. Whatever you cannot control will control you. For instance, if your uncontrollable desire is to please the Lord, it simply means God will be in charge of your affairs.
1 Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
You cannot satisfy the flesh and the spirit the same time; you have to let one govern the other. Romans 8:7 “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.”
Whatsoever you focus your energy on, that is what you will get Galatians 6: 8 “8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”
Galatians 5:17 “For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.”
What are uncontrollable desires of the flesh?
Whatever you do that does not glorify God in your life are desires of the flesh. Lust for the flesh includes immorality, covetousness, anger, envy, jealousy, etc. they are deadly, and it will lead you nowhere.
Three lies about uncontrollable desires of the flesh
Most Christians are kept in bondage because they allow their lives to be ruled by the lies of the devil.
1. It is normal
Christians have given up, and they’ve decided to live with these uncontrollable desires because the society has tagged it as “normal.” “The lie” is to make you a prisoner to the flesh; you are meant to rule over the flesh and not the other way round.
2. You cannot live without it
Once again, this belief system is to keep you from setting yourself free from all sins of the flesh. You are not of this world even though you are in this world. You are Heaven’s ambassador; whatever affects the world will not harm you.
3. It is who you are; you cannot change it
This is not you! You are above whatever desires you have right now. 1 Peter 2:9 “9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;
The above scripture shows your real self in Christ! Even the devil knows it, and that is the reason he is trying so hard to subject you to the flesh.
1 Corinthians 10:13
“No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”
In the first part of this topic, we realized that allowing the flesh to rule over us will limit our glorious destinies.
What are the steps to control our desires?
The only game the devil knows how to play well is the mind-game; if he can influence your mindset, then he can influence your life. We give too much credit to the devil; not all bad things happen because of him. No, he is not that powerful. The reason we feel he is superior is that we gave him the power in the first place. Uncontrolled desires are 100% you and not the devil.
1. Change the name
Uncontrollable desires will remain “uncontrollable” because we gave it a name “uncontrollable.”
God has given us His creative power; whatever will name a thing or situation stands. Whatever we bind on earth shall be bind in heaven, and whatever we loose here will be loosed in heaven. (Mathew 18:18). Same rules apply to our habits- we can only control our desires if we see it as controllable desires instead of uncontrollable desires.
Genesis 2:20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam, there was not found a help meet for him.” Whatever name Adam called the animals that became the name forever. Change how you habits or desires you do not want in your life.
2. Embrace the gift of redemption
2 Corinthians 2:15
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
One way to defeat the urge of our ungodly desire is to resist it by the Word of God, “I am a changed man, I am not the person you used to know” God has redeemed you from the law, I am no longer subjected to the flesh (Galatians 3:13. For whosoever is born of the Spirit is a spirit. Therefore, these desires can no longer rule over your life! Praise God!
3. Be God-conscious
Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Get to know God, study His word, listen to Anointed ministers of the gospel, read anointed books that will feed your spirit-man.
Joshua 1:8
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Meditate on the Word of God and watch how easy it is to put the flesh where it belongs.
Everything is yours, but you need to do the needful. Matthew 6:8 “Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.” Your Father knows what you need in life;
He knows you more than anyone.
Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Seek His presence, He wants to help you, but He cannot interfere in your issues until you ask Him to. Fellowship with the Holy Spirit, you will be surprised how things will turn out.
ENCOURAGE YOURSELF:
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:24
I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Galatians 2:20
We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin. Romans 6:6
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Galatians 5:16
