Drugs, And Teens

Most drug users never planned to become drug addicts, but it happens more often than we care to admit. Addiction is addiction whether it is alcohol, sex or drugs. God has offered us help through His Word to break free of the harmful habits. Some verses in the Bible give warnings as to why you should abstain from these social vices. Not only is this an issue for adults but our adolescents are becoming addicted at an alarming rate. There are Drug Rehab centers ready to help your children, if this is something they desire to do. You must will to be clean from substance abuse. Drug Rehab centers can only aid you in this matter.

There are also scriptures of encouragement to inform us that all addictions can be overcome. No matter what you think about addiction or the many questions going through your mind, such as; ‘I cannot change, this is stronger than I am, I could not live without it, I tried to stop, I could not, I went to rehab, but here I am doing it again, I only do this on weekend, this is now a routine habit, or there is nothing I can do about it. There is good news for you today, Jesus can break your addiction.

There are many forms of addiction and a Substance or Drug Rehab for each:
Alcoholism, drugs/prescription, Intemperance, food, gambling, gaming, porn, power, sex, dependence, workaholic. Be not deceived, there are many more, these are just a few and we all have some type of bad habit one way or another. Do yourself a favor and be true to thine own self.

Your case is not peculiar
About 700 BCE, The Prophet Isaiah foretold in Isaiah 61:1, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, he has sent me to bind the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to those who are bound”.
About 30 CE, Jesus the Messiah proclaimed in Luke 4:18; “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, he has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed”.

Jesus explained, “if you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free…Truly I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin… If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:31). This is the best option if you trust and believe in God, but not everybody goes to church, and not everyone has the faith enough to believe, so maybe the drug rehab center is the best place for you. It doesn’t matter as long as you get the help you need.

How to break free from addictions
About 55 CE, the Apostle Paul wrote; “Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor the drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. Moreover, such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). Note that reading or the meditation of these verses are good, but fasting and praying is a necessity. Matthews 17:21 tells us that “By no other means can this come forth but by prayer and fasting”.

Thus, our creator provides other methods which are powerful means by which He breaks addictions:
1. The name of our Lord Jesus Christ
The New “The reason the son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). Our addictions make us slave of the devil. This condition is called sin. When Jesus died on the cross, He took our sins upon himself. Jesus death broke the power of the devil over us. When Jesus came back to life, he showed that he is the Lord who has won victory over the devil.

2. The Spirit of our God
Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. When we get baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we receive God’s Holy Spirit as a gift. Then we have all the power of God to walk in Jesus’ victory over our addictions. Neither willpower, nor good deeds, nor good intentions can break addictions. Calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and being filled with God’s Spirit, can break our addictions and keep us free. Which also takes a great willingness on our part. How much harder would it be for a teenager without the guidance and love of his or her parents.

Seven steps to break your addictions
1. Turn from your former beliefs and put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Believe that Jesus died and rose again for you and I.
3. Call out unto God, to save you from Satan, from sin, and from your addictions
4. Ask some Christians to baptize you with water, praying for you to receive the God’s Holy Spirit.
5. Whenever you feel desire for your addiction, speak to Jesus, asking him to fill you again with God’s Holy Spirit.
6. Stay away from persons and places that practice your habits.
7. Gather often with other recovering addicts who have faith in Jesus, praying together to God to keep you free.

“What fruit were you getting…from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become solders of God, the fruit you will receive leads to sanctification, and its end is eternal life” (Romans 6:21-22).

Fourteen scriptures to help you overcome addictions and how to encourage yourself in the Lord: These comforting Scriptures will help you overcome addiction any time, any day. Jesus overcame Satan by the spoken word, which is written In the Bible. The scriptures say “Give me understanding, and I shall live.” Once you understand, you become outstanding, and the devil (those addictions) cannot withstand you anymore.

1. Proverbs 6:26-29
“For using a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life. Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that Goethe into his neighbor’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.”

2. Proverbs 20:1
“Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.”

3. Isaiah 5:11
“Woe unto them that rise early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!”

4. Matthew 6:9-13
“After this manner, therefore, pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom comes, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.”

5. John 8:36
“If the Son, therefore, shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

6. Romans 6:16
“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”

7. Romans 13:14
“But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.”

8. 1 Corinthians 6:12
“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.”

9. 1 Corinthians 6:18 A
“Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body, but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.”

10. 1 Corinthians 10:13
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

11. 2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things become new.”

12. Ephesians 5:18-20
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;”

13. Titus 2:11-14
“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”

14. James 1:12-15
“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” When I read this scripture, it was so powerful and so real to me. It is exactly what happened in my life concerning Skyler. If not God, then a drug rehab could have helped.

I write to you from my heart, and although Skyler wasn’t a adolescent, he was just 21 years of age. Skyler was reliant on Heroin. I am sad to say Skyler passed away from a drug overdose January 2018. One of the worst days of my life, he leave to cherish his beautiful son Chase; Mark, Tyler, myself and a host of family and friends. When I tell you the obsession, the insane behaviors that I dealt with on a consistent basis was ridiculous. The pure evil that spewed from his mouth when having a bad day because of the lack of being able to have another hit. The mindset he possessed in order to get funds to buy more of the forbidden substance of his choice, words cannot explain. Life was pretty intense on occasions. I thought it was a hoax upon first hearing the news of his dimiss.

I plead to our youth, our teenagers and young adults to rid their lives of this evil habit before it’s too late. I knew Skyler for three years, and when I met him, he told me he was a recovering addict. I thought I could help him, I also thought having a baby and the love for us would have been enough for him to want to do better. It wasn’t! He’s gone. Everyday I wonder what I could have done differently. Well I couldn’t, he had gotten so good at hiding it. No more injection marks on his arm, it had gotten to the point where he was doing it between his toes, and for some they will lift their scrotum up and inject there so people cannot tell.

I went along with Skyler and his chronic habits of smoking marijuana and drinking as long as he wasn’t totally intoxicated or careless.  I told myself he’s not an addict or an alcoholic, he only does a little to take the edge off. Telling myself that this was the better of the two, I could live with drinking as long as he wasn’t doing any opiates. I was wrong in many instances and for various reasons. I have had to ask God to forgive me over and over again. The method in which I went about my personal situation was down right wrong. Please do not make the same mistake I have made. I believe I was only hurting, and not helping. One should never replace one sin for another. Thank God for his grace and mercy which are renewed everyday.

I have learned that a substance abuser is so crafty individual that learn/practice becoming master minds at acting normal, and or hiding their addiction. They are so good, that they are now hiding the area in which they do their injections. Places that are more commonly used are under their scrotum, between their toes, and anywhere else they can think of.  It is my belief that many addicts would like to change for the better, but no one will invest the proper techniques or time to assist these youngsters with their dependence. Do not allow your child or any other children to go without the much needed help. Be aware, be alert, and most of all pray each day for your child. Firmly embed good practices in your children when they are young, and when they are grown, they may not depart.

The drug problem in schools today are at an astronomical rate. The teens discuss how easy it is to get various drugs on any giving occasion. Drugs such as Heroin, Meth, and Cocaine, something that the rich Caucasian children can easily get their hands on; and don’t seem to mind selling to others. We must pray, something has to be done, because when you lose someone it’s hard, but when it is someone this young, it’s such a devastating situation. Parents be real with your children, and children be honest with your parents. You can call this number below or Google the nearest Drug Rehab center. Please do not hesitate.

I compel you to believe in the relationship with your youth, to be more positive, more constructive, and most importantly accountable at all cost. However, God cannot come to your rescue until you ask for His help. Call upon Him now, and He will answer you. If you aren’t in church, you can still get the help you need, by reaching out to a Drug Rehab Center nearest to you. I cannot stress this enough, when you lose a loved one, it puts a different perspective on life.

Encourage Yourself: May the word of God richly dwell in you to stop all forces of addictions, and break loose from your life. Amen! There is drug rehabilitation and God, that’s it unless your own will to do better can make a life changing difference.
